March, 2007
QuickStep forms R&D and marketing alliance with US-based Zyvax Inc.

  • Quickstep signs formal Cooperation Agreement with Zyvax Inc, a US-based supplier of tool preparation and mould release formulas for composites manufacturing.
  • Agreement acknowledges strong synergy between the two companies and mutual interest in demonstrating the compatibility and benefits of the Quickstep Process.
  • Zyvax to supply tool preparation and mould release products to all Quickstep facilities for use in testing and demonstrating.
  • Intention to formalise a sales and marketing agreement to jointly promote composite production using the Quickstep Process with Zyvax products.

International composites manufacturing group, Quickstep Holdings Limited (ASX: QHL – “Quickstep”), and global chemical supplier, Zyvax Inc (“Zyvax”), today jointly announced a new business alliance focusing on the development and promotion of composite production techniques utilising Quickstep’s patented composites manufacturing process combined with Zyvax’s proprietary tool treatment formulas.

The ‘Quickstep Process’ – as with all composites manufacturing - requires that a barrier treatment be applied to moulds and tooling parts in order to prevent the manufactured component from sticking to the mould. Zyvax manufactures a range of proven, environmentally friendly, high-performance treatment products, and can also develop new formulas to meet specific manufacturing requirements. The alliance recognises that Quickstep’s and Zyvax’s patented innovations for composites manufacture are complementary, and significant synergies could be generated through a formal business alliance.

Under the terms of the agreement, which will initially run for a 5-year period, Zyvax will supply tool preparation and mould release products to all Quickstep locations, including pilot production facilities, for use in testing and demonstrations. Zyvax will also provide support to Quickstep research and development as new requirements are identified.

Zyvax CEO, Ms Nancy Layman, said the alliance would allow Zyvax and Quickstep to jointly present an enhanced composites manufacturing solution to potential customers.

“Quickstep and Zyvax have arrived on the market at a time when there is a global demand for high-volume, low-cost manufacturing methods for advanced composites materials,” she said. “Both parties believe that the Quickstep manufacturing process is unique, and, when used in conjunction with Zyvax’s tool preparation and mould release formulas, will present an attractive total solution to manufacturers seeking improved production efficiencies.”

The agreement also allows for the establishment of an Agreed Strategic Sales & Marketing Understanding between the two companies.

Quickstep Managing Director, Mr Nick Noble, said, “Setting a formal marketing agreement would allow both companies to plan, fund and resource projects in advance”.

“We believe our customers make decisions regarding materials and processes for composites production based on successful demonstrations of the technology. We have therefore made an in principle agreement to jointly demonstrate and promote activities to allow both Quickstep and Zyvax to better demonstrate the advantages of our systems to potential customers,” he added.

October 6, 2004 - Pacesetting Flex-Z To Star At ACMA Show

March 29, 2004 – Reinforced Plastics -- JEC Show Preview

Zyvax: Zyvax is introducing Flex-Z, a family of products designed to let molders select the level of release needed for specific parts and processes. The company says this system gives the molder the ability to adjust the level of release at his or her discretion.

Zyvax says that Flex-Z’s easy-to-use system (Z1.0-Z6.0) means that male and female moulds, small or large, can have the level of release performance desired, and molders can easily make release adjustments when switching between summer and winter resin systems.

The Flex-Z technology is said to make mould preparation much quicker. This system is suitable for all open and closed molding processes, from wet lay-up to resin transfer molding (RTM) and infusion. It is also free of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) to help molders meet emission restrictions.

Coating Lets Molders Choose Necessary Level Of Release

Flex-Z family lets molders incrementally adjust level of release needed for specific parts and processes. HAP-free Coatings, from 1.0–6.0, provide level of release performance desired, enabling molders to switch between levels of product for different molds or apply simultaneous levels of product to one mold. Formula eliminates streaking across full range of application techniques. It suits open and closed molding processes from wet lay-up to RTM and infusion.

March 30, 2004 – Industrial News Room --
Flex-Z Debuts Innovative Standard In Customer-Controlled Mold Releases

PARIS – March 30, 2004 – After 15 years of product innovations, Zyvax is breaking new ground again with the launch of Flex-Z, a revolutionary family of products specifically designed to let molders select the level of release needed for specific parts and processes. The Flex-Z system represents the first time molders have been given the ability to incrementally adjust the level of release at their own discretion.

According to company officials, Flex-Z’s easy-to-use system of coatings (1.0 – 6.0) means that molds, from small to large, can have the level of release performance desired, and molders can easily make release adjustments when switching between summer and winter resin systems. Molders can apply simultaneous “levels” of product to one mold to achieve the specific type of release needed. For example, one portion of the mold might require 3.0, another uses 1.0 while another part uses 4.0 – all at the same time.

“The wide range of release performance needed for manufacturing polyester parts is well documented,” said Nancy Layman, CEO and founder of Zyvax. “Flex-Z is an array platform that solves everything from hard pulls to pre-release problems while maintaining the required high level of gloss. When it comes to giving customers total control and flexibility in their choices for release, there is nothing like it on the market.”

Scott Layman of Zyvax explained that the formula eliminates streaking across the full range of application techniques, making retraining unnecessary. The system is suitable for all open and closed molding processes from wet lay-up to RTM and infusion. It is also HAP-free to help molders meet new emission restrictions.

Flex-Z is currently available in North America and in Europe. Package sizes include single cans, pails and drums. For questions about Zyvax products and availability please call (800) 858-4111 in the United States or +34 96 338 43 38 in Europe, or e-mail cco@zyvax.com
